We are located in the Scott County Heritage Center & Museum building, one mile south of the square in Scottsburg, Indiana at 1050 South Main Street. We are housed in the old Poor Farm which is a museum now.
A brief history of the building: It was the 3rd building built in Scott County to assist with the poor. There were two prior buildings of wood but in 1892 this building was built of brick. A beautiful two story building with dormers and a big front porch, and a large front yard.
We continue to ask for donations into our Scott County Community Foundation endowment plan as we hope to have a large enough balance the interest will cover our rent of $350 per month plus the $120 per month storage building rent. Since the volunteers are aging we are finding it much harder to do fundraising events; therefore this interest will help us keep the SCGSI Research Rooms up and going. At this date, 10/15/2025 we have a balance of $92,490.63. We must remember this fluctuates with the Stock Market.
To donate to this fund, you may send a donation to the SCGSI, PO Box 23, Scottsburg, IN 47170-0023 by check or money order, Paypal (to researchrooms@scgsi.org) or drop cash off when we are open. If you prefer, mail to Scott County Community Foundation, PO Box 25, Scottsburg, IN 47170-0025. Thank you so much for helping keep Scott County Indiana’s family history available.
We are open on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday of each week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
