08/24/2024: REMINDER of the UP coming Pigeon Roost Annual Reunion & Pitch-In* to be held on September 8th at noon. Don’t forget to bring any family history and pictures to share. Plus, if you aren’t sure of, bring and ask Jackie Krohmer or Ed Cozart to help on identifying. Jackie lives in the greater L.A. area in California but she is a descendant of the Collings, Richey’s families and will be here for the reunion weekend. Also, reminder the Museum will be open until 4 p.m. for you to visit, see the displays and come into the Research Rooms on that day free of charge. We are a library of course, so any photo copies made via digital means of any kind (i.e. your own devices, or ours) we must charge $5.00 per day for members, or otherwise. *Note: A pitch-in is similar to a pot luck just bring what you would like to share.

UPDATE: Yesterday’s program for Scott County Genealogical Society, Inc. was attended by 15 people and we learned a lot. Mark Kreps, Janet Kreps, and Barbara Adams all from Muncie, came dressed in the part and presented a great program. In fact, one of Barbara’s family members are the Boicourts that lived in Charlestown area during 1812. The Research Rooms now have more information on the Boicourts in our files. THANK YOU to all that attended to hear about the War of 1812 in Southern Indiana.

08/23/2024: UPDATE This program turned out wonderfully! THANKS to all of you that attended and supported the Museum. The TIPS to the Cooks was taken to the Scott County Community Foundation and placed in the Museum’s endowment to help them for years to come. 08/13/2024: The Scott County Museum’s History Dinner is SOLD OUT! We are limited to 42 people to be comfortable in the room. Thank you to those who purchased tickets for the History Program of Scott County, IN.

… Next meeting and program for SCGSI is Saturday, August 24th, 2024 3:00-5:00 p.m. Location: 1050 South Main St., Scottsburg, IN in the Smith Room. The public is invited to hear our Free Program: An Overview of the War of 1812 in Indiana. The program will be presented by Mark and Janet Kreps. Refreshments of finger foods will be available. A donation box will be available for help with paying the speakers and providing the refreshments.

…Saturday August 31, 2024: SCGSI cooks will again be serving breakfast for the Farmer’s Market customers. Once again, we will have the homemade sausage gravy and biscuits. Also, there will be several breakfast casseroles for you to try also. Later at near lunchtime we will have baked beans with hot dogs. Dessert will be available also. Come see us in the Museum parking lot, next to the bridge. 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.

…Pigeon Roost History Reunion is on Sunday, September 8th, at NOON. Bring your chair, table service, and food to share. After the reunion, plan to stop by the Museum and SCGSI rooms. We will have Pigeon Roost display along with The Collings, Richeys & The Pigeon Roost Massacre historical and genealogical books will be available . All three books are available at a price of $107.00 (including IN Sales Tax) per book, Number 1, 2, or 3. Also, the SCGS has a lot of new family files plus several Richey and Collings papers for many to see. Normally there is a $5.00 fee per person researching, who are not members, the fee is WAIVED THE DAY OF THE REUNION!

07/18/2024: If you are interested in attending the Country Style History Dinner on Friday, August 16th at the Scott County Museum, 1050 S. Main St., Scottsburg, Indiana, you will want to buy your tickets this week. The museum is open on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 10-4 and on Sunday Noon – 4. Tickets are $23.00 per person. Mr. Ed Cozart will present the program “Sheik Bandits the Gangster of Southern Indiana” following the meal. There are only 40 spaces available to serve a meal, therefore most of the tickets are already sold. Only 18 are left as of Thursday, July 18th. Don’t delay. NO tickets will be sold at the door. If you have questions, call the Museum at 812.752.1050. No tickets will be held without payment.

05/24/2024: The Research Rooms have added quite a bit of new information including Heacock, Righthouse, Johnson, Lightcap, Van Buskirk, Presiden Kennedy, President Eisenhauer, Storms, Mace, and several others. Information is added monthly. We have a lot of information on Indiana counties and surrounding states. You don’t have to be a Scott Countian to find your family roots.
